on sunrises, solstice stirrings + global uprisings

From Lindsay Airey, posting up on Anishinaabe land (Detroit, MI).

the world is dark
but i can see
the bright pink
rising

slowly lighting the sky
birds take flight
a new day

if new days rise
just like that
a flash on the horizon
could we?

if we went…
dark enough?
quiet enough?
tuned into the body
of Earth enough?

like the Linden out my window
shedding leaves
standing firm
offering sanctuary
from predators and cold
roots deep enough to hold

could we stand firm?
roots entwined
and also rise?

a new world IS rising
on this quiet morning
i hear Her cry

their lies
we no longer buy
their deaths
we refuse to die
killing our Mother
we won’t stand by
kidnapping our neighbors
no light in their eyes

will someone
please tell me why
it’s such a threat
a people who rise?

could it be Time
for their demise?
are the people of Earth
now wise?
how many more
must be unalived?

but will i?
will we?

a new day is rising
time to get synchronizing
the world grows darkest
just before the light
