– Luke 19:10

If the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost, who could be more lost than large corporations whose actions defile the earth and her creatures? But wouldn’t corporations need to be “people” in order to be saved? Apparently in the USA, corporate personhood is a thing. Corporate personhood is the legal notion that a corporation separately from its associated human beings (like owners, managers, or employees), has at least some of the legal rights and responsibilities enjoyed by natural persons. Luke 21: 25-36

So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.  Luke 21:31

The Kin-dom of God is near.  It visits in the night like the spirit presence of the white-tailed deer.  I go out early to search for fresh prints in the previous night’s early snows.  Like the kin-dom of God, the deer are on the move.  It’s rutting season.  Their tracks tell me that the does and last year’s fawns move in groups.  The lone tracks that cross these are the bucks seeking mates.  I am not yet skilled or scent sensitive enough to notice the signs the bucks leave on branches to attract the does but I know it is so.  When they mate the doe and buck “enact a ritual of motion, touch, sound and scent before coming together.”  (p. 14, All Creation Waits, by Gail Boss and illust. by David G. Klein, 2016)  All is now pregnant possibility unfolding just beyond my vision in the night.  All I see of their restless urgency are the tracks in the morning snow.

Wild Lectionary: It’s not about the bread

Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.”  Now there was a great deal of grass in the place; so they sat down, about five thousand in all.  Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted.  When they were satisfied, he told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.”

Funny story, true story:  As I write this I am at a large Church Conference as a “guest,” where on Sunday, I heard an inspiring sermon on the feeding of the multitude story as told by Mark.  After worship and communion where we shared a morsel of the Bread of Life dipped in grape juice, we eventually found our way to the cafeteria for lunch.  As a “guest” for a couple of days I had not purchased a meal plan and so was hoping to purchase a random ticket for lunch.  Continue reading “Wild Lectionary: It’s not about the bread” →
